A Message from MedSend’s Chief Development Officer, Morgan Boardman

As we approach the close of MedSend’s fiscal year on June 30, I wanted to share one example of what your support makes possible in this final opportunity to give.

Eleven surgeons

That is the number of MedSend-supported PAACS residents who have completed their training and are now serving across Africa.

Together, those 11 surgeons see more than 25,000 patients and perform more than 7,700 procedures every year. And that is just ONE of our residency partner programs.

Think about that for a moment.

Every patient represents a person in need of care. Every procedure represents a life touched by a physician who chose to serve where surgical care is often difficult to access. Every encounter creates an opportunity to demonstrate compassion, offer prayer, and share the love of Christ.

The impact continues to grow over time.

It is estimated that each graduate may perform approximately 14,560 major surgical procedures during a 20-year career. Based on those estimates, the 11 MedSend-supported graduates serving today could collectively provide more than 160,000 surgical procedures over the course of their careers.

That is the power of investing in healthcare professionals.

It is also why MedSend’s work extends beyond training alone.

Through MedSend to the World, US healthcare professionals are able to go sooner and remain longer. Through the National Scholars Program, physicians across Africa and Asia receive advanced residency training. Through the Launch Project, graduates entering missionary service receive critical support during their early years of ministry. Through The Longevity Project, healthcare missionaries receive care that strengthens their well-being and helps sustain their service.

Together, these programs create a pathway that equips healthcare professionals to bring compassionate care and the hope of Christ to communities around the world.

Watch: How MedSend Helps Healthcare Professionals Serve Where Care Is Needed Most

In just a few minutes, this video explains how MedSend’s four core programs work together to support healthcare professionals from training through long-term service and why that support matters in places where medical care and the hope of Christ are both urgently needed.

We are now entering the final days of our fiscal year. If you have not yet made your fiscal year-end gift, there is still time to help support the next generation of healthcare missionaries and National Scholars who are preparing to serve where care is urgently needed.

Will you help us finish the year strong?

Thank you for your partnership, your prayers, and your commitment to bringing healing and hope to people around the world.

Flourishing by Design: Imagining Medical Missions for 2040

Our predecessors faithfully built institutions that have served for generations. Our challenge is different. We have inherited those institutions into a world they could scarcely have imagined. Population growth, urbanization, changing disease patterns, financial pressures, conflict, climate shocks, and technological change are reshaping healthcare across low- and middle-income countries.

Drawing on new data about the Christian health ecosystem, strategic consultations with global and African Christian health leaders, and field experience across Africa and Asia, this session explores what it will take for Christian health ministries to flourish by 2040.

Together we’ll imagine what it will take for Christian health ministries to flourish by 2040, strengthening resilient institutions, cultivating exceptional local leadership, and mobilizing a broader range of Christian expertise from medicine and nursing to governance, education, engineering, finance, data science, and technology.

How can Christian health ministries become indispensable partners in building resilient health systems that reflect the compassion and hope of Christ? The legacy of the next generation of medical missions will be measured not only by the number of missionaries sent, but by the resilience, flourishing, and Christ-centered witness of systems they strengthen.
